In October 2021, the Government announced Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 with the goal of carbon neutrality before 2050, under which “green buildings” is one of the four major decarbonisation strategies.
The Government, being one of the key players in building development, has been leading by example. Over 700 government buildings have already attained the second highest rating or above of the BEAM Plus. While taking in account private buildings, there are altogether over 1,900 buildings met the target.
The Government’s commitment to decarbonisation targets provides driving force for the private sector to take positive actions to enhance the green performance of their projects, showcasing a collaborative effort to meet the city’s ambitious climate goals. Two complementary systems support this approach:
BEAM Plus – evaluates green building performance
iSAT – extends structured assessment to infrastructure and non-building projects
